How is WARDKEY free? What's the catch?
WARDKEY works locally on your device. Cloud features like breach scanning, sharing, and emergency access use our secure servers, but your vault is always encrypted end-to-end. For our launch, every feature is completely free. Down the road we'll introduce an affordable Pro tier for cloud sync and multi-device support, but a free tier with local vault, password management, generator, and TOTP will always be available.
Is local-first storage actually more secure than cloud?
Yes. With cloud-based managers, your encrypted vault is stored on servers that are high-value targets for hackers (see: LastPass 2022 breach). With WARDKEY, your vault is always encrypted end-to-end and stored locally first. Cloud features like breach scanning and sharing use our servers, but your vault data is encrypted before it leaves your device. It's a fundamentally different approach — your AES-256-GCM encrypted vault stays under your control.
What happens if I lose my device?
WARDKEY lets you export encrypted backups anytime. We recommend regular JSON exports to a secure USB drive or other offline storage. Cloud sync across devices is coming soon.
How does the AI work? Is my data sent to AI servers?
AI features use Claude by Anthropic to analyze your security. Only the specific data you choose to analyze (like a password's characteristics or a suspicious URL) is sent — never your full vault. No passwords are shared verbatim. Password characteristics (not the password itself) are analyzed. You're always in control of what gets analyzed.
Can I import from my current password manager?
Absolutely. WARDKEY supports import from 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, Chrome, and generic CSV/JSON files. Just export from your current tool and drag-and-drop into WARDKEY. Takes about 30 seconds.
